DESI index 2022 published

The European Commission has published the results of the 2022 Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI). The Index measures EU Member States’ progress of different aspects of the digital world.

Overall, Member States have made significant progress in digitalisation. However, closing the digital skills gaps remains a major challenge. Other areas that require more attention and effort are implementation of important digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, as well as improving connectivity infrastructures.

According to DESI results, the gap between the highest and lowest performing countries is slowly decreasing, but is still significantly wide to cause concern. The EU Recovery and Resilience Facility is providing approximately €127 billion for improvements and targeted investments. This is a unique opportunity for Member States, especially those lagging behind, to increase the pace of their digital transformation.
