Internet industry calls for more European tech sovereignty

The Internet industry organisation ‘ECO’ has called for more European sovereignty over developments in technology, which is causing disruption across the region and the world. The call is separated into six subsections: expanding digital funding programmes, establishing and standardising reliable IT protection levels, addressing digital infrastructures and digital sovereignty, removing virtual internal borders, creating Europe-wide minimum standards and establishing a functioning level playing field.

Under the section ‘Create Europe-wide minimum standards’, the organisation includes digital education as a key area that the EU should focus on to boost local technological capability and influence.

“Digital education made in Europe is the guarantee for a secure supply of IT specialists in Europe and for Europe as a future-oriented business location”, it stated.
