The preliminary findings of the European Commission’s “White Paper on Artificial Intelligence: Public consultation towards a European approach for excellence and trust” are now available in a report.
90% of the respondents considered the fostering of the necessary skills as the most important action to build an ecosystem of AI excellence in Europe. The support of research and innovation and coordination with Member States followed, with 88% and 87% respectively. The possibility of AI breaching fundamental rights and the use of AI leading to discrimination were named as the most serious concerns, by respectively 90% and 87% of respondents.
The White Paper was published on 19 February 2020, along with an online survey focusing on support for AI across the EU economy and public administrations, options for a future regulatory framework on AI as well as safety and liability aspects on AI.
